In this article, I'll walk you through the entire process of installing and configuring Arch Linux on your machine. But once you've gone through the process, you'll start to understand how the other distributions work in general. It's just that you have to go through the individual steps manually instead of having an installer do the things for you. Speaking from experience, installing Arch Linux is not very different from installing something like Fedora or Ubuntu. ![]() So running Arch Linux on your system is kind of a testament to your understanding of Linux. This is because installing Arch Linux on a machine requires you to have proper knowledge of how different parts of a Linux distribution work. Have you ever heard someone say, Oh – by the way, I use Arch Linux! You'll get to choose what packages you want, the kernel (yes there are multiple), the boot-loader, the desktop environment, and so on. It lets you have full responsibility and control over your system. In other words, Arch Linux is a distribution optimized for x86-64 architecture targeted at experienced Linux users. The default installation is a minimal base system, configured by the user to only add what is purposely required. The freedom of putting together an operating system according to my needs, and that's where Arch Linux comes in.Īccording to their wiki, Arch Linux is an independently developed, x86-64 general-purpose GNU/Linux distribution that strives to provide the latest stable versions of most software by following a rolling-release model. Those with more technical knowledge will probably call it a kernel.įor me, though, Linux is not just an operating system or a kernel. If you ask a group of developers what Linux is, most of them will probably say it's an open-source operating system.

![]() I hope you get more opinions, but I personally would say get the 770's. In fact just now I tried listening to my M50's again and my first thought was, why did I think these sounded so good? That's not to knock them or anything but going between the two the 770's gave a much better representation. If you like a lot of mid bass that is colored and a darker sound signature go for the M50x's, but the 770's sound much better imo. THIS I was blown away with, because the soundstage is crud on the M50's. But the treble is also good because it adds a crispness and airiness that lets all the sound breathe. One way to put that, the headphones are doing their job, and are revealing. I found it kind of annoying out of the box honestly but it's settled down quite a bit after a month and it tends to only be a minor problem on bright recordings. Tracks that have a little bit of sibilance will have more on the 770's, but again, I PERSONALLY don't think it's THAT BAD, but it is noticeable, so if brighter treble/sibilance bothers you proceed with caution. My only complaint with the sound signature is that, while the treble is clear and detailed, it can get a bit peaky, especially in the sibilance region. The mids, people say they are recessed, and I think they are just slightly, maybe a little thin and hollow, but not enough to be a deal breaker. Supposedly the 80 ohm version has even more bass but I find the 32 ohm to have enough. Try a track with really good sub bass and you will be amazed. The bass is strong on songs recorded that way, which is how it should be. I, like you, am a fan of bass but I'm not a bass head and I prefer bass to sound more accurate than all over the place and muddying up them mids, and the 770 32 ohm is great for that. As an owner of both, the 770's are MUCH better than the M50's. Anyway, I went with the DT 770's to replace them because they looked comfortable as hell and are highly praised. I had the M50x's for about 3 years but over time the clamp weakened and they became really uncomfortable, almost unbearable for long sessions because of the way they sat against my ears. ![]() I don't really care much about the amp, i just want it to give a nice sound to pair with the headphones.Funny you this question should pop up as I was in the same boat a month ago, sort of. What amp would you suggest? someone on a different site suggested to me that the Schiit Magni is a solid choice. Im excited to get my hands on the headphones. Okay wow you guys have been really helpful haha. The 250 Ohm version has a higher damping factor resulting in tighter control of high frequency sound. what's the difference between the 32 and 250 ohm version though? Is it simply just a volume difference? Just remember that unless you actually have a bunch of high quality audio files to listen to, you probably won't be able to hear much difference between the onboard and a dedicated amp when it comes to just gaming or lower quality music streams/videos. Either way, it's not like higher impedance headphones won't work with lower powered outputs, they'll usually just won't get as loud. You might want to email MSI to see if they'll tell you what's supported. The board manual also doesn't specify the max output impedance, so I can't say for sure. This is the only thing I can find amidst the marketing on the product page. ![]() Singling out the threading expertise of performance engineer Azamat Mametjanov of Argonne’s Mathematics and Computer Science division, Jacob continued: “We’ve been running and testing on Theta, our new 10-petaflop system at Argonne’s Leadership Computing Facility, and will conduct some of the high-res simulations on that platform.” “Our researchers have been active in ensuring that the model performs well with many threads,” said Jacob, who will lead the infrastructure group in Phase II, which - with E3SM’s initial release - starts on July 1. This objective underscores the project’s heavy emphasis on both performance and infrastructure - two key areas of strength for Argonne. The goal is for E3SM to support simulation of five years of the Earth system on a single computing day at its highest possible resolution by 2021. The new release can simulate 10 years of the Earth system in one day at low resolution or one year of the Earth system at high resolution in one day (a sample movie is available at the project website). In fact, increasing the number of Earth-system days simulated per day of computing time at varying levels of resolution is so important that it is a prerequisite for achieving the E3SM project goal. Simulating the Earth involves solving approximations of physical, chemical and biological governing equations on spatial grids at the highest resolutions possible. “With this new system, we’ll be able to more realistically simulate the present, which gives us more confidence to simulate the future.” The long view “This model adds a much more complete representation between interactions of the energy system and the Earth system,” said David Bader, a computational scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and overall E3SM project lead. Enhancing prediction reliability requires advances on two frontiers: (1) improved simulation of Earth system processes by developing new models of physical processes, increasing model resolution and enhancing computational performance and (2) representing the two-way interactions between human activities and natural processes more realistically, especially where these interactions affect U.S. This objective has historically been limited by constraints in computing technologies and uncertainties in theory and observations. To support this mission, the project’s goal is to develop an Earth system model that increases prediction reliability. “One of E3SM’s purposes is to help ensure that DOE’s climate mission can be met - including on future exascale systems,” said Robert Jacob, a computational climate scientist in the Environmental Science division of DOE’s Argonne National Laboratory and one of 15 project co-leaders. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Biological and Environmental Research. The system can help researchers anticipate decadal-scale changes that could influence the U.S. Released on April 23, after four years of development, E3SM features weather-scale resolution - i.e., enough detail to capture fronts, storms and hurricanes - and uses advanced computers to simulate aspects of the Earth’s variability. The Monday workshops provided Hidalgo with a source of income and an avenue to share his songwriting prowess. She got involved when longtime Bay Area arts activist Maria de la Rosa, who spearheaded the Brava Son Jarocho Festival that last brought Quetzal to the Bay Area, reached out about supporting Hidalgo who, like so many musicians, had lost all of his work. It’s a welcome return to a process that depends upon in-person interaction, though Gonzalez said that the pandemic came with a bright silver lining.Ī weekly live-streamed song session featuring Veracruz master Patricio Hidalgo kept Gonzalez connected to the art form’s source. They’re all devoted to fostering son jarocho away from the bandstand and, while Quetzal is in town, it’s also offering a collective songwriting workshop at Brava on May 15, a practice that’s as much about building a communal response to community challenges as developing tunes for performance. Quetzal Flores is the program manager for the Alliance for California Traditional Arts, and other Quetzales teach in prisons, work in recording studios and as community activists. Fortunately, the musicians don’t depend on touring for their livelihood. This is one reason why the pandemic hit Quetzal so hard. “Songs from Puentes Sonoros” came out in January, 2021, when performances and gatherings weren’t possible. “Out of everything, I think the community-building practice has been most influential for us.” “All these different facets of the tradition speak to us as Chicanos, as humans who are also struggling in our own identity,” she said. The concert revolves around material from the band’s latest album for Smithsonian/Folkways, “ Songs from Puentes Sonoros,” and the production is set to a backdrop of photos and film footage shot during the band’s 2017 Veracruz sojourn that led to “Puentes Sonoros.” While spending time in the villages with the master musicians, “we recorded a lot of soundscapes, folks speaking with each other and jamming, and just natural sounds of birds and wind,” Gonzalez said. The next generation will also be present, as the teenage duo of Sandino Gonzalez Flores (Martha Gonzalez’s son) and Lucia Gutierrez Rebolloso (Ramon Gutierrez’s daughter) play an opening set and then join Quetzal. They’ll be joined by longtime collaborator Ramon Gutierrez, the founder and leader of the great Veracruz son jarocho band Son de Madera. The group also features co-founder and namesake Quetzal Flores on jarana jarocha, requinto jarocho, bajo sexto and guitar Tylana Enomoto on violin and backing vocals Juan Perez on electric and acoustic bass drummer Evan Greer and percussionist Alberto Lopez. Quetzal returns to the Brava Theatre on May 14 for the first time since the start of the pandemic, and it’s bringing the community along with it. Trials also serve defendants when the plea bargain offered by the state is weak or doesn’t benefit them. It is also the only way to escape a felony record. These rights are critical for wrongly accused defendants to see justice. The most important benefit of the trial is that it allows every defendant the rights guaranteed to them by the constitution. Trials also buy more time to spend with family and get affairs in order before a prison sentence. It gives you more time to build your defense and poke holes in the prosecutor’s argument. Unfortunately, I had problems reading the cd. ![]() It runs just fine under Vista 64, so I got really encouraged that this might work. I downloaded the most recent version of DOSBOX and installed it. I knew it existed and had even used it, but it had not occurred to me to try it for this particular game. I rediscovered a nifty little emulator called DOSBOX. Well, the edition I have happens to have a DOS version, a Windows 3.1 version and the Windows 95 version. I even tried to install it in my Windows 95 virtual machine, but, as often happened back then, the installation died a very dishonorable death. I tried all of the tricks I knew to get it to run, but it just refused. I finally found and proceeded to install…er, attempt to install the game on my Vista 64 bit machine. So now he is on a quest to play all Sim City games. Over the years, he has gone through various phases…rollercoaster games, RPG’s of the Nintendo flavor, sports games, back to rollercoaster sims and, lately, city building. There really isn’t any one type of game that he prefers over another, but he does seem to lean toward the simulation genre more than any other type. He has since he was able to understand what a game is…needless to say, that covers pretty much his whole life. NOTE: see end of post for an alternative method. |
